NOVEMBER: PlanetOut Inc. acquires substantially all of the assets of LPI Media Inc., and affiliated direct marketing and publishing entities, including The Advocate and OUT, which are the two largest circulation LGBT magazines in the U.S., as well as the acclaimed Web sites Advocate.com, OUT.com and related e-commerce sites.

 2004

OCTOBER: PlanetOut begins trading on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol LGBT.

MARCH: Nielsen NetRatings ranks Gay.com second in terms of average time online and sixteenth in terms of visits per person among all websites measured.

FEBRUARY: The Families Channel launches on Gay.com and PlanetOut.com offering parenting and wedding content tailored to the LGBT community.

JANUARY: Gay.com's Winter CD features top pop artists Britney Spears, Pink and Sarah McLachlan.

 2003

MAY: Gay.com launches a large ad campaign targeting gay consumers, placing proud gay images on billboards in major markets worldwide.

MARCH: Gay.com welcomes the site's 2 millionth personals profile.

FEBRUARY: PlanetOut Partners launches the Corporate Pride Directory, a combination of FORTUNE magazine's list of the 1,000 largest American companies and HRC's Corporate Equality Index which rates how America's biggest companies are treating their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees.

 2002

FEBRUARY: Gay.com posts its one millionth personals ad, just in time for Valentine's Day.

 2001

MAY: Gay.com launches premium matchmaking service. Gay.com Personals becomes the company's most rapidly growing product and revenue source.

APRIL: Gay.com parent company Online Partners finalizes merger with PlanetOut Corporation to create PlanetOut Partners, Inc. The new company operates the Gay.com and PlanetOut.com sites as separate portals. The merger creates one of the largest and most extensive interactive media and products company serving the gay and lesbian community worldwide.

FEBRUARY: Gay.com and PlanetOut.com each surpass million-member mark.

JANUARY: PlanetOut launches PersonalsPlus premium matchmaking service, the company's first online subscription-based service.

 2000

DECEMBER: Online Partners acquires Kleptomaniac.com, an e-commerce site offering products tailored to gay consumers.

DECEMBER: Online Partners makes an initial equity investment in Gay.it, a leading Italian portal, expanding its presence in Europe.

DECEMBER: Gay.com receives the "Best Community Site Award" from Yahoo! Internet Life magazine

SEPTEMBER: PlanetOut Corporation acquires OutandAbout.com, a leading provider of information for gay and lesbian travelers through its popular monthly newsletter and Website.

MARCH: OnQ, a gay community featured on AOL, is acquired by Online Partners.

 1999

NOVEMBER: Gay.com becomes the first gay site ranked by MediaMetrics.

MARCH: Former rival online communities Gay.com and Gay.Net joined forces to form Online Partners. Integration of the two portals under the Gay.com Website combines Gay.com chat with Gay.Net's quality original content and affiliates, which include many prominent regional and national gay and lesbian publications.

 1998

JUNE: Company debuts the first video sitcom to be streamed over the Net exclusively on PlanetOut.com.

JANUARY: PlanetOut.com receives the "Best Community Site Award" from Yahoo! Internet Life magazine.

 1997

JUNE: PlanetOut.com premieres their popular movie and film channel.

JANUARY: Gay.com expands its chat network through numerous affiliate partnerships with gay and lesbian Web sites. Gay.com quickly becomes one of the most recognized and frequently visited gay destinations on the Internet.

 1996

SEPTEMBER: PlanetOut Corporation offers two portals simultaneously on the World Wide Web and America Online. PlanetOut also establishes content syndication and distribution partnerships with Yahoo!, AOL, Netscape, ICQ, Microsoft and other leading sites.

AUGUST: Gay.com launches a global chat network in six languages sparking exponential growth in traffic and creating one of the Web's most active gay communities.

JULY: Gay.Net launches a site offering news and lifestyle content to the gay market.

JUNE: PopcornQ film and video Website launches on PlanetOut.com.

 1995
AUGUST: PlanetOut Corporation founder Tom Rielly registers the PlanetOut.com url and launches its portal serving the gay and lesbian community on the nascent Microsoft Network.
 1994
JULY: Gay.com founder Mark Elderkin registers one of the most powerful urls on the Web and a few months later begins distributing a bi-monthly gay and lesbian newsletter to paid subscribers.
